Franceine received her B.A. in Biochemistry and Cellular and Molecular Biology from Connecticut College, where she studied conserved residues in chromophore formation of GFP. She earned her Ph.D. from Stony Brook University in Biochemistry and Structural Biology in the lab of Dr. Michael Airola, where she studied the structural basis of mechanisms of substrate recognition of lipid-modifying enzyme lipin. In 2022, Franceine was awarded a Gilliam fellowship from HHMI, which supported her graduate thesis and continues to support her post-doctoral studies.
Outside of the lab, Franceine enjoys gardening and caring for her houseplants, traveling, and reading.
